The Presence of Absence.

The Body as Political Tool.

For my dissertation I looked at how the body is used for political ends in contemporary art. In particular I focus on artists and their works in which the body is not physically present but alluded to. This ‘presence of absence’ can, I argue, be more powerful than if the body had actually been present.
