Transient Passage (2015)

The French situationist, Guy Debord, put forward the idea that the urban environment restricts human experience by placing artificial constraints on its movements.

He argued that as individuals we become conditioned to operate in small circles due to the landscape’s  psychogeographical effects. Debord, coined the act of the ‘Dérive’ (drift), as a response to these constraints. The dérive involved wandering through the urban landscape in an unplanned manner thereby allowing the surroundings to subconsciously direct your movements. The experience would as a result be a more authentic response to that landscape.

The work produced here attempts to follow this ideal around the urban environment of Cambridge.
