“I cannot consider being an artist a trivial occupation”
Ricardo Pimentel
Ricardo Pimentel is an Anglo-Portuguese artist based in Norfolk, working primarily in screen-printing and photography.
His most recent commission was for the Portuguese Consulate in London. The five large pieces explore how Portugal is viewed both culturally and historically and explores whether this influences Portugal going forward. The series is titled ‘What we were is only a part of what we are’.
Ricardo’s most recent Norfolk based work is heavily inspired by the Norfolk coast and landscapes of East Anglia and North Norfolk. However, although landscapes feature in the works, they serve as a prop to explore notions of time and our perceptions of Norfolk over time.
As a dual National, Portuguese and British citizen, Ricardo is able to provide original and different perspectives to an area he loves. ‘Consequential Drift’ is the title given to this Norfolk body of work.
As an artist, he hopes that his work will provoke thought and encourage both reflection and contemplation from his audiences. You can view the complete body of work or view his previous exhibitions.
As with most artists, visiting exhibitions is central to their practice. Ricardo’s reviews of the exhibitions he has visited give an insight into his views on the artistic practice of others and how they are curated.
